Who Do You Say You Are in Me?

Click here to listen to the Fourth Watch message from July, 21, 2020

In Daniel 1, the story is told of four young men who were taken into captivity with their nation. The king wanted the finest from the house of God to come and serve in his courts. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were excellent young men in the ways of The Lord. They knew two things for certain: They knew their God and they knew what their names meant. Even though the enemy tried to change their names and assign them demonic names, they only referred to each other as their God given names. Their names represented who God was in their lives. Jesus asked the disciples in Matthew 16:13-19Mark 8:27-29Luke 9:18-20, who did the other people say that He was. He then asked them, “Who Do You Say That I Am?”. It is one thing to know what someone else thinks about the One you love, but what You know about Jesus, and what you say about Jesus is totally different. We better know Our God and who we say that He is to us and also, we must know who we are in Him. So go back, read the account of the Hebrew boys in Daniel chapter 1, then see if you know enough about you and who you serve, to stand the test in these times. No matter what someone else says about Jesus to you, you had better know what Jesus speaks in you. Who do you say that He is to you? Who do you say that He is in you? 🙄

Notes

The time to know who you are is not when you get to the fire. It is before there is ever a spark to light it. Daniel and his friends had test upon test while they were in Babylonian captivity. They were able to endure the hardship because of what happened before they got to the test. They knew their God intimately already. They already knew their Hebrew name. They had been prepared to stand long before the test of standing came. They had been trained for warfare long before there was the war. When they were brought into the king’s company, the first intention was to break the boys into submission. Instead of breaking them, favor was granted to them. What was it about these young men that caused their overseer to allow them to eat a different diet? He saw how they knew who they were. He saw that they were not afraid to be different from all of the rest. He saw a strength in them that had been instilled as children. What he saw in them, would later cause great blessings for him and the entire kingdom. What did these boys know going into bondage? They knew that they were already free to be who God had created them to be. They knew it on the inside of them. Scripture tells us that the Greater One lives on the inside of us. Right?  Well, if indeed this is true, then what is on the inside, will show up on the outside. You cannot hide a person from their character.  Who you are in the dark will be revealed by the light. Who you serve in the dark, will be exposed in the light. The disciples had become intimate with Jesus because of the fellowship they had. They had heard the teacher teach but had also seen the Shepherd feed the sheep natural food when they were hungry.  No wonder God was able to reveal to Peter who Jesus really was when others were still wondering. Today, tomorrow and forever, our assignment must be to know our God intimately, so that when there is a public problem, your intimate trust will show forth.  Daniel and the team knew their God and was known by God. The disciples knew Jesus and was known by Jesus as well. Do you know your God? Does He know you? If you don’t, stop now and allow Him to introduce Himself to you through His Word.  Read the word of God. Pray the word of God. Hide the word of God in your heart. Declare who you are based upon the word that is in you. Pray! Obey! Stay! Have a Jesus Filled Day!!
